The Best And Worst Of WrestleMania 29

The Best And Worst Of WrestleMania 29

Who made WrestleMania 29 worth watching, and who made us want to turn it off?

WWE’s WrestleMania 29 is in the books, and it’s time to look at the best and the worst Superstars and Divas from this extravagant wrestling event.

The Best

Big E Langston

Big E Langston could easily have a great career in the WWE. I was actually stunned to hear that it was his debut match in the WWE (NXT unfortunately doesn’t count). While his time in the ring was brief, he gave it his all during the tag match with Dolph Ziggler VS Team Hell No. I’m probably the only one who would go to bat for Big E Langston, but that’s okay.

Chris Jericho

WWE WrestleMania 29 Fandango

Jericho could have a WrestleMania match with a shovel and it would be exciting to watch. It’s nice to see someone like future Hall of Famer Chris Jericho put over young talent in the company (even if it’s someone like Fandango). Y2J could never (eeeeeever!) walk away as a loser in any match. It wasn’t as exciting as his WWE Championship with CM Punk last year, but it was a stellar performance nonetheless.

CM Punk

WWE WrestleMania 29 CM Punk Old School Undertaker

CM Punk is one of the best heels the WWE has seen in quite some time. While others usually stare at the Phenom during his epic entrance at past WrestleManias, Punk gleefully tossed the urn around with a smile on his face. Punk VS. Taker was easily the match of the night and was one of Punk’s best matches to date. The highlight of the match (out of many) was the GTS into the Tombstone Piledriver.

WWE WrestleMania 29 The Undertaker

The Worst

Rhode Scholars & The Bella Twins VS. Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls

Honestly, this lackluster match shouldn’t have been booked for WrestleMania. There was no sort of build up for this 8 person mixed tag match. I could say the same for the Team Hell No VS. Ziggler & Big E match, but at least the WWE Tag Team Championship was on the line. Thankfully, they decided to scrap this match hours before Mania. This really hurts Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes who should have definitely been included in WrestleMania 29 in some way, shape or form. A triple threat tag match (or a fatal four way tag team match if The Prime Time Players got involved) for the WWE Tag Team Championship would have worked out very well, WWE’s creative team has failed us once again.

Snubbed Champions Kaitlyn and Antonio Cesaro

Both the Divas Champion and United States Champion got completely shut out of WrestleMania this year. This stings Antonio Cesaro more since he has held the United States Championship for almost eight months now and unfortunately has become a jobber over the past couple of months (losing to Sin Cara doesn’t help anyone). Divas Champion Kaitlyn should have defended the title against a worthy opponent. Maybe Layla? Natalya? Or perhaps some hometown wrestler named AJ Lee?

Dolph Ziggler

This was quite possibly Ziggler’s worst WrestleMania yet. The Show-off failed at capturing Tag Team gold AND didn’t cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase. The entire crowd anticipated his cash-in with chants of “We Want Ziggler” heard loudly during the World Heavyweight Championship match. Luckily, Del Rio wasn’t that fatigued after his match or this missed opportunity would have hurt more. (Editor’s Note: Ziggler cashed in on the April 8th, 2013 edition of RAW, successfully beating Alberto Del Rio to become World Heavyweight Champion!)

Ryback’s loss at WrestleMania 29 is his sixth (yes, sixth) PPV loss in a row. This really isn’t how you push someone with a growing fan base like Ryback. He did get his WrestleMania moment by giving Mark Henry the Shell Shocked after the match. Let’s just hope he gets fed a PPV win very soon.

Kofi Kingston

Kofi has been involved in a few Mania matches in his career but nothing could ever beat…hosting the WrestleMania pre-show and post-show? Sitting with Hall of Famers Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes is pretty awesome, but it doesn’t take away from the downward spiral Kofi has been in since losing the Intercontinental Championship to Wade Barrett back in December.

Brock Lesnar VS.Triple H

WWE WrestleMania 29 Triple H VS Brock Lesnar

This match was flat out boring and was certainly the worst match of the night. There were a couple of nice spots (Brock Lesnar finishing the job that CM Punk couldn’t do with the Spanish announcer table) but the crowd wasn’t feeling it as chants of “Boring” could be heard through various sections of the stadium. You wouldn’t expect this to be the “piss break” match, but it failed to live up to all the hype.

The In-Between

AJ Lee

There is nothing more exhilarating for a pro wrestler than performing in front of their hometown at WrestleMania. It doesn’t matter if it’s the main event or a brief segment. While AJ got that moment (sorry, Darren Young and Zack Ryder), she honestly should have been involved in a Divas Championship match against her former best friend Kaitlyn. While some might say that AJ is above the Divas division, winning the championship in her home state at WrestleMania would have been an emotional and unforgettable experience for the Union City, New Jersey native.

The Miz

If you didn’t see (or care) about the WrestleMania pre-show, The Miz won the Intercontinental Championship from Wade Barrett. While this is a good win for Miz, it’s hard to be that proud when The Awesome One once headlined WrestleMania a couple years back. This year, he got bumped down to pre-show status. Ouch.

The Rock VS. John Cena

WWE WrestleMania 29 The Rock VS John Cena

This main event was a complete doozy. The response from the sold out stadium could have been heard all the way from San Diego. The thing that irked me the most was the amount of reversals. Taker/ Punk had some great reversal spots but the Rock/ Cena match felt almost like a damn video game with a constant string of reversals. Cena walked away victorious with his first WWE Championship in 18 months. To be honest, it was nice to see him not hold the gold for quite some time.
