Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 Recasts Peter Parker, Upsets Fans
Many believe the new actor cast as the face of Peter Parker resembles Tom Holland
With a new video showcasing the upgrades coming to Spider-Man Remastered on PlayStation 5 (available only by purchasing Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5), another unexpected change was revealed. Insomniac Games has decided to completely recast the face of Peter Parker for the remaster, citing issues with importing voice actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial motion capture to the old face (that of actor John Bubniak). Insomniac claims in an article at PlayStation Blog that the new face, that of Ben Jordan, brings a new dimension of believability and realism to Lowenthal’s performance.
Lowenthal will still voice the web-slinger, but many fans are upset at the change, claiming that the face of Ben Jordan looks to similar to that of Tom Holland, the actor currently wearing Spidey’s duds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’re also upset that he looks too young, since in Marvel’s Spider-Man Peter Parker is 23 years old and has been Spider-Man for 8 years already.
“Today’s news about the new Peter Parker face model has surprised some of you, and we at Insomniac totally understand your reaction,” Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar tweeted. “Heck, it even took me a while to get used to Peter’s new look. But as we discussed the franchise’s future and moving to the PS5, it quickly became apparent that delivering even more believable-looking characters made finding a better facial match for actor Yuri Lowenthal — who we all love as Peter — a necessity.
“We care as much about this character as your attachment to him, so please know we didn’t make this decision/ change lightly. As we did throughout the development of Marvel’s Spider-Man, we’ll continue to read your comments, listen, and always be looking or ways to improve every facet of the game. At the same time, I hope you can trust us that this decision is what we feel is best for the future of the franchise and our upcoming goals for this beloved Marvel character.”

“This is a technically motivated decision centered around the challenges from using separate people for the model of the face and facial performance,” Insomniac responded more than once on Twitter. However, on this Reddit post, fans are noting that the new model for Spider-Man Remastered actually seems to lack the emotion of the old model.
Those who feel strongly about the change are now rallying around Bubniak, the original face model for Parker. On a recent Instagram post of his that does not mention Spider-Man at all, many of the top replies now voice support for Bubniak.
