After an event dubbed “The Blackout”, all cars, trains, computers and electronics ceased to function when the world’s electricity was permanently disabled. But in Season Two, things changed. Revolution started out as a fast-paced, apocalyptic adventure, where the objective was learning what caused the outage and returning the power to the world, as well as rescuing Charlie Matheson’s brother from the Militia. Revolution was unceremoniously canceled in May 2014, and so the lingering question is whether the show is able to wrap things up neatly in the final episodes found on the Revolution: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][imageeffect image=”25003″ target=”_self” type=”shadow” lightbox=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There were high hopes for Revolution; the creator, Eric Kripke, was notably the creator of Supernatural, one of the most successful shows on television, now in its ninth season (not to mention one of its executive producers is J.J. Abrams).  But since the show was cancelled before the creators could fully flesh out the story, fans are left with a disappointingly anticlimactic, rushed finale to the series.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In Revolution, scientists created a device that had the ability to disable all of Earth’s electricity. This led to, basically, an apocalypse, with survivors living like settlers did in the early 1800’s, with candlelight and farming for food. Little by little, the characters gain insight as to how the power was taken and how to get it back, as well as how this event could change the world for both better and worse. The show follows Charlie Matheson (Tracy Spiridakosas) as her and a band of rebels attempt to overthrow a militia and give power back to the people.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][imageeffect image=”25001″ target=”_self” type=”shadow” lightbox=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Season Two of Revolution shows no dramatic difference in story and I found myself struggling to get through it. Friends-turned-enemies General Monroe and Miles continued to battle over power. Charlie, the main protagonist of the show and all-around do-gooder, sides with Monroe, the antagonist from Season One. Miles, Rachel and Aaron deal with the typical chaos that has come to be so familiar to the bunch. But it is learned through the discovery of a mysterious group called the Patriots, that they were the ones behind the nuclear attacks that ended Season One. Season Two is spent rallying against the Patriots and working to finish them off. It was obvious the show wanted to go somewhere, but didn’t know which way to go, and tried its best to set up for a third season.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When I first started watching Revolution on Netflix, I didn’t like it. I thought Tracy Spiridakos’ acting was poor and I couldn’t bear to watch. I gave it another go a couple of weeks later, and finished Season One dramatically fast. Unfortunately, I didn’t get what I wanted out of Season Two, an issue that many others faced. It wasn’t until much later on that I learned the series had been cancelled after just two seasons. As I watched the finale, my fingernails dug into the skin; they had set up the final episode as if there would be a third season, which meant unresolved conflicts and open endings. But it’s tough to blame the writers when their job was to set the show up for an intended third season.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][imageeffect image=”25000″ target=”_self” type=”shadow” lightbox=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The sound quality of the Blu-ray version of Revolution: The Complete Second Season is crisp and clear – I tested the discs on a surround sound system and was suitably impressed. You can hear more subtle sound effects like the cracks of a branch with a footstep. The sounds are also more detailed. For example, explosions aren’t just a burst of noise in your ear, but you can sort of pick apart each sound in the explosion as it comes together into the blast. With a gunshot, the cock of the gun and the actual release of the bullet is very characteristic of each gun and is nicely separated. Dialogue is clear and intelligible throughout the chaos. All of the intricate sound design can be cleanly heard on the Blu-ray version of Revolution Season Two.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Aside from the final 22 episodes of Revolution, the Blu-ray also packs some special features. Revolution: Heading West touches on criticism for the first season, as Kripke talks about the team’s intent for a more focused second season. Other extras look into the authenticity of the show, as far as what research was done to make it feel realistic, as well as a PSA for micro-hydro power plants, a Comic-Con panel, a gag reel, and some deleted scenes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][imageeffect image=”25002″ target=”_self” type=”shadow” lightbox=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The season finale of Revolution Season 2 left doors open for another season, and I’m sure fans wanted it, but we’ll never get to see what could have been. Overall, Revolution is not a disappointment. It was mesmerizing at first and displayed an original concept, characteristic of Eric Kripke. But unlike Supernatural, it just couldn’t hang in there. Still, fans of the show will appreciate Revolution: The Complete Second Season’s stellar Blu-ray audiovisual presentation and exclusive extras.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]DVD Standard Features: *
