Resident Evil 4 Remake: Release Date, Story & Gameplay Details
After the success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, it looks like a Resident Evil 4 Remake is on the way next. Here’s everything we know.
Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 saw great success in terms of sales and critical reviews, upgrading the classic games with modern controls, revised storylines, and enhanced gameplay. It’s no surprise that the company is interested in a remake of fan-favorite Resident Evil 4.
A recent report from VGN suggests that Resident Evil 4 Remake has been in development since 2018. It’s been rumored that the next remake could be Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, which originally released on the Sega Dreamcast, but it makes more sense for it to be a main entry like Resident Evil 4. Some fans would argue that Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece and should be left untouched, while others argue that the game could be greatly expanded and enhanced on modern consoles or even next-gen consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay
Gameplay is also tricky with the Resident Evil 4 remake, as it’s not nearly as dated as the previous game. RE 4 created the basis that both the recent remakes are inspired by. The over-the-shoulder combat would likely remain mostly the same, although with a few refinements and tweaks from Resident Evil 2 and 3. RE 4 has been remastered and re-released on pretty much every platform since the GameCube, so it’s hard to say how much the gameplay could be improved with a remake. Focusing on different body parts and dismemberment, like in the RE 2 and 3 remakes, would likely be more of a focus, however.
