Gal Gadot Cast As Wonder Woman In Batman Vs. Superman
The Man of Steel sequel Batman Vs. Superman has gained another famous superhero: Zack Snyder has confirmed that Gal Gadot will be portraying Princess Diana/ Wonder Woman in the 2015 film.
Gal Gadot was recently seen in the hit movie Fast and Furious 6, and won the role after a number of dark-haired females were tested. Elodie Yung from G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Olga Kurylenko from “Quantum of Solace” were auditioned for the coveted role, and Thor: The Dark World actress Jaimie Alexander was publicly lobbying for the role on social media and in interviews.
Director Zack Snyder released the following statement with the casting news. “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
Many fans have speculated that casting a new Batman in the new Man of Steel sequel showed DC’s interest in building an Avengers-style shared cinematic universe leading up to a Justice League film. The presence of Wonder Woman all but confirms this theory. Hopefully Stephen Amell will get the chance to reprise his Arrow TV role as the film version of Green Arrow – he’s been doing a fantastic job on the show.
Batman Vs. Superman opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
