Adventure Time – “The Suitor” DVD Review

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time follows the zany adventures of Jake The Dog and Finn The Human. Adventure Time: The Suitor is a collection of 16 random episodes from the psychedelic, bizarre comedy, beginning with this DVD collection’s namesake in which a man named Braco becomes completely obsessed with Princess Bubblegum.

From there, Finn and Jake will run into James Baxter The Horse, King Worm, Sky Witch, Hug Wolf, and many more interesting characters. “Heat Signature” has Finn and Jake attempting to become vampires through their friend Marceline The Vampire Queen (so they can float, rather than sit on an uncomfortable couch), and Marceline’s bloodsucker friends end up pranking the duo way too hard.

Fan-favorite character BMO gets an origin story in “Be More”, and Finn gets cursed by a friendly, but annoying Lycan in “Hug Wolf”. “Morituri Te Salutamus” sees the pair unable to resist the coolness of fighting gladiator ghosts, and Finn learns that it’s best to never let Jake know his full plans. We get a glimpse into Finn’s past life in “The Vault”, and “Red Starved” shows what happens when Marceline gets a bit too hungry.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][imageeffect image=”23752″ lightbox=”yes” target=”_self” type=”shadow”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The episodes are hit and miss – this DVD set is the definition of a mixed bag. As I’d never seen an episode of Adventure Time prior to popping in The Suitor, I had no real idea what to expect (although the trippy cover art featuring Peppermint Butler is a strong clue). But I’m certainly no stranger to weird comedy cartoons – I recently reviewed a few Regular Show releases and totally loved that series. That said, the first few episodes of this DVD didn’t exactly win me over, but later episodes that were less over-the-top and more character driven (with actual, comprehensible plots) were far more enjoyable.

Unfortunately, it seems that any decent extras are being saved for the next Blu-ray release, as the only special feature here is five short character bios. There are no behind the scenes videos or commentary here, but the DVD is about three hours long, providing a solid amount of entertainment value for Adventure Time fans.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_progress_bar values=”75|” bgcolor=”bar_blue” title=”Overall Score 7.5/ 10″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][button title=”Buy Adventure Time: The Suitor on Amazon” type=”linkbutton” color=”blue” align=”alignleft” url=”” target=”_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
