Batman: Arkham Origins Announced – Details, ScreensApril 9, 2013
Batman: Arkham Origins will be a prequel, taking place many years before the first entry in the series.
Today, Batman: Arkham Origins was announced for a host of different platforms, including PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate will be released as well for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.
The main game will be released on October 25th of this year, as revealed in the newest issue of Game Informer. Strangely, Batman: Arkham Origins is not being developed by Rocksteady, but rather in-house at Warner Bros. Games Montreal. The new team has access to all of Rocksteady’s assets though, including their heavily modified Unreal 3 engine. The project is being directed by Eric Holmes, whose past credits include Lead Designer on games such as The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype.
As the game’s title would lead you to believe, Batman: Arkham Origins takes place years before the first entry in the series, when a young and much greener Bruce Wayne takes on many of his classic foes for the very first time, including Deathstroke, who makes his series debut.
Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate will be a “”2.5-D Metroid-style exploration action game”, which is fitting, as it’s being developed by some of the fine folks who brought you Metroid Prime at Armature Studios. This game will be set after the events of the main game.
We’re a bit worried about the lack of involvement on Rocksteady’s part. What do you think? Are you excited for a Batman prequel?
