Interview With Jimmy Urine Of Mindless Self Indulgence
MSI mastermind Jimmy Urine talked to Metal Arcade about their upcoming tour, and advice for bands looking to live a life on the road.
Often imitated but never duplicated, Mindless Self Indulgence’s infectious brand of electronica punk has gained the band national tours with acts such as Linkin Park, System of a Down & Rammstein, and festival performances at Bamboozle, Coachella and Soundwave. MSI have returned with their brand new record entitled How I Learned to Stop Giving a Sh*t and Love Mindless Self Indulgence, which can be purchased on their upcoming U.S. tour. MSI mastermind Jimmy Urine talked to Metal Arcade about their recent stop at the Soundwave Festival, their upcoming tour, and advice for bands looking to live a life on the road.

Metal Arcade: MSI just came back from doing the Soundwave Festival. How was the experience in Australia?

Metal Arcade: Last year, the band returned to the road life after taking some much needed time off. What was it like performing in front of your fans again?
Jimmy Urine: SAME AS IT EVER WAS WE WERE CRAZY AND THEY WERE CRAZY …IT WAS KIND OF TRIPPY THAT THE AUDIENCE AND US TOOK RIGHT UP AS IF 3 YEARS NEVER HAPPENED THAT WAS WEIRD …AS SOON AS THE FIRST NOTE HIT IT WAS LIKE NO ONE FORGOT ANYTHING
Metal Arcade: MSI are back with a brand new record this time around. What can fans expect from the new release?
Jimmy Urine: A WHOLE LOT OF SON OF A B*TCH
Metal Arcade: A handful of acts will open MSI’s upcoming U.S. tour on separate legs. While your fans are familiar with Chantal Claret, The Red Paintings and Peter Pepper, Death Spells are a fairly new act. What should people expect from that band?
Jimmy Urine: I DONT EVEN KNOW ..ITS GONNA BE A SURPRISE …JAMES DEWEESE AND FRANK IERO FROM DEATHSPELLS ARE FRIENDS …AND I REACHED OUT TO JAMES AND WAS LIKE “WHAT YOU GOT GOING ON WANT TO OPEN SOME DATES” …AND HE WAS LIKE I GOT THIS THING CALLED DEATH SPELLS AND I WAS LIKE OK DONE DEAL …I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT IT IS …BUT KNOWING THOSE GUYS ITS GONNA BE A LOT OF IN YO FACE
Metal Arcade: While MSI has been featured in some video game soundtracks, you had the pleasure of being one of the composers for the video game Lollipop Chainsaw. Is that something that you would want to do more in the future?
Jimmy Urine: HELL F*CK YEAH …I WANT TO DO IT IN THE FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT …AND I WILL
Metal Arcade: You’ve been on the road for lengthy periods of time. Do you have any advice for bands that want to become road warriors?
Jimmy Urine: YOU BETTER LEARN TO LIVE WITH PAIN ….AND YOU DON’T SH*T ON THE BUS
Metal Arcade: What music are you currently listening to?
Jimmy Urine: MINE CUZ OUR NEW RECORD IS ACTUALLY GOOD !!!
Metal Arcade: It seems that Mindless Self Indulgence have done it all: Billboard appearances, late night TV performances, comic books, tours around the world. Is there anything that the band wants to conquer next?
Jimmy Urine: MONEY. WE WOULD LIKE TO CONQUER MONEY.
