Gears Of War Franchise Has “Zero Chance” Of Coming To PS3June 15, 2011
Epic Games frontman Cliffy B has decided to come out and bury the rumors of Gears Of War on Playstation.
The franchise has become extremely profitable for Microsoft and the Xbox 360 brand, but nonetheless whispers have been heard for years about Gears jumping aboard the Playstation ship. The rumors really started to heat up during GDC, when Epic Games President Mike Capps stated that he “would love” to bring Gears of War to Playstation 3.
Speaking to Industry Gamers, Cliffy B said that , while it would make for a good news story, “I would say in the foreseeable future there’s zero chances of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now? Seriously. It’s like, we have a great deal with Microsoft, they’re a great partner…”
When asked about Capps’ contradicting statement, he replied with, “It’s one of those things that would be exciting news. Hopefully DualShock would get tweaked a little bit, but anyway, enough about that.”
For those that don’t know, Cliffy B has been trashing the Playstation’s DualShock controller, which has raised many eyebrows recently. Sony hasn’t changed their controller design in over a decade for good reason- it’s one of the best controllers ever made. He went on to bitch and moan about why the buttons are X’s and squares and generally PMS. I really can’t see a whole hell of a lot of difference between the DualShock and the 360’s controller.
While keeping the Gears franchise tied to only one console certainly limits sales, Microsoft is surely keeping Cliffy B sleeping on a bed made of money to keep it on 360.
Gears of War 3 is due to ship out on September 20th, 2011. Cliffy thanked Industry Gamers for “not being dumb” and asking him if Gears 3 is the end to the trilogy, and said in a mocking voice, “Is this the last Gears ever?”
Wow. Success has certainly not gone to this guy’s head.
