Gorillaz Creator Jamie Hewlett Confirms Group’s Return on Instagram
For the past several months, Gorillaz singer Damon Albarn has offered hints that the animated band was preparing for a return with co-creator/ artist Jamie Hewlett. Gorillaz has not released an album since 2011’s The Fall, but yesterday Hewlett posted a few pictures of fictional band members Noodle and Murdoc via his Instagram account. This led to rabid fan inquiries regarding a Gorillaz reunion, and Hewlett responded to his fans with “Yes. Gorillaz Returns”. Work on the fifth album is reportedly already underway, according to REVOLT.
Gorillaz’ last album, 2011’s The Fall, was recorded entirely on Damon Albarn’s iPad during the Escape From Plastic Beach Tour, in various American cities. In 2012 Albarn and Hewlett supposedly had a bit of a falling out regarding the direction of the band, with Albarn hinting that the group was officially over and Hewlett decidedly more optimistic, stating that the two simply needed some time apart after more than 13 years creating music together.
