This week Swedish developers Propellerhead Software released version 7.1 of their Digital Audio Workstation Reason as well as version 2.1 of Reason Essentials (the slimmed-down version of the program). The update includes a few simple workflow improvements, such as being able to hold shift when moving devices within the Reason rack to automatically reroute their place in the signal flow, as well as the addition of a spectrum eq on the master bus and improved rewire syncing with Cubase.
The real news is that the update comes with the launch of version 2 of the Rack Extension developer kit (REs being the proprietary plugin format for Reason). This will allow third party developers of Rack Extensions greater freedom and options when developing plugins for Reason. It’s also been announced that soon developers will have a more streamlined option for making sample based instruments and have the ability to easily convert NKI and NNXT patches to REs.
7.1 also includes free (until June 30th) the Synchronous Time Effect Modulator Rack Extension. Synchronous being an example of the capabilities of the new RE SDK. It certainly has a new look and a ton of parameters for tweaking. Check out the introduction video for the plugin below.
