Video Comparison: Did Watch Dogs Get A Visual Downgrade?
Last week Ubisoft released a new trailer and release date for the highly anticipated open-world title Watch Dogs. While the game, releasing May 27th, certainly looks exciting and interesting, there’s been a lot of commotion amongst gamers online regarding an apparent downgrade in visual fidelity.
The video, which was posted to YouTube by Jason Knothe, gives a visual comparison of gameplay shown from the past two E3s as well as the new footage. Ubisoft has claimed that there has been no visual downgrade, and all of the footage in this video is taken from trailers that were supposedly using in-game footage, though probably not all on the same platform.
It’s a bit tough to tell on a compressed video stream, but the comparison shows some stark differences. Some of the footage is comparing night footage to day, but it’s an interesting comparison nonetheless. Of course, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen game trailers showcasing wildly upgraded visuals versus what it actually looks like on a gamer’s TV screen upon release. Killzone 2 is perhaps the most infamous example, and it could easily be said that even the newest Madden releases haven’t matched the graphical quality on display in the Madden ’06 debut trailer.
