DC Collectibles Batman: Arkham City Nightwing Statue ReviewDecember 2, 2013
2011’s Batman: Arkham City was a huge hit with gamers, garnering countless Game of the Year awards and adding another feather to the cap of developer Rocksteady. Building upon the foundation of the highly acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City expanded the gameplay with an open-world environment and a whole new cast of characters, including Nightwing, who was purchasable via a DLC pack. Now DC Collectibles has released a porcelain statue of the character, sculpted by Amos Hemsley. The roughly 8.8″ statue of the original Robin packs incredible detail and a spot-on likeness to his video game counterpart, in a battle-ready stance featuring his dual electric batons.
The packaging for the DC Collectibles Batman: Arkham City Nightwing Statue features a clean layout, with the new DC Comics peel-back sticker-esque logo pulling away to reveal a photo of Amos Hemsley’s creation. The sides of the box showcase alternate poses of Nightwing, and the back of the box offers a look at some of the other statues in the Arkham City line, such as Batman and the Joker.
This is the first statue that I have seen sculpted by Amos Hemsley, but hopefully DC Collectibles uses him again for future pieces as he’s done a stellar job here. The face sculpt is extremely accurate, the body is proportionate, and the costume detail is fantastic. The textured motif on the costume, the scabbards on Nightwing’s back, and the batons themselves are as true to his digital counterpart as I would imagine is possible with a cold-cast porcelain statue. The paint job is also spot-on, echoing the black-and-white-with-color-highlights look of the video game’s promotional artwork. I didn’t notice any errors such as paint spills. The base on my particular statue was quite stable, and Nightwing stood easily on his own without any worry of him tipping over.
Overall, the DC Collectibles Batman: Arkham City Nightwing Statue is an extremely awesome piece that any fan of the game series or comics will want to own. There is quite literally nothing to complain about here, and the excellent sculpt by Amos Hemsley is easily one of DC Collectibles’ greatest thus far. Here’s hoping that the company continues this level of quality in the future.
