Did You Catch These Monsters University Easter Eggs?

Pixar loves to throw secrets into their films. Did you catch these easter eggs in Monsters University?

Pixar loves to throw a few easter eggs into their films for fans to seek out. For instance, A113 references the former classroom of John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter and Andrew Stanton at CalArts, and has found its way into every Pixar film, alongside John Ratzenberger, who the animation studio considers their “good luck charm”. Disney/ Pixar’s Monsters University (review here) features a few such hidden gems, which are revealed here:

Pizza Planet Truck

Here’s the iconic Pizza Planet truck, shown in just about every Pixar film. In Monsters University, you’ll find the Pizza Planet truck in the driveway of the JOX fraternity house when Mike is riding Archie the Scare Pig down Greek Row. The truck first made its appearance in Toy Story, and John Lasseter even managed to squeeze it into last year’s Brave – it can be seen as a carving inside the witch’s cottage.

A113

The School of Scaring classroom number is A113, an inside joke with the alumni of California Institute of the Arts. It refers to the classroom number used by graphic design and character animation students at the school.

Pixar Luxo Ball

Shown in many Pixar films, the Luxo ball can be seen in graffiti on the wall behind Claire Wheeler and Brock Pearson during their introduction to the Scare Games’ first challenge. Pixar Animation Studio’s short film “Luxo Jr.” was the first computer animated short film released by Pixar during its first year as a studio in 1986.

  1. Thanks for this post, man, I actually caught the A113 reference but I was sad to not find the Luxo Ball and Pizza Planet Truck when I saw this film.
