Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Dead At 49
Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman has succumbed to liver failure at the age of 49.
Jeff Hanneman, Slayer guitarist and founding member, unfortunately passed away today at age 49 of liver failure.
“Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home,” stated the band’s publicist. “Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure.”
Slayer’s longtime guitarist had been taking a few years off from the band, recovering from a brutally severe case of Necrotising Fasciitis that almost cost him his arm. The flesh eating disease was reportedly caused by a spider bite, and Slayer refused to permanently replace him, instead hiring Gary Hoult from Exodus to fill in on tours until Hanneman was able to resume touring and album recording.
Hanneman is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry.
