Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer
Kojima follows up today’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain announcement with a trailer.
UPDATE: Hideo Kojima has attempted to explain away some confusion generated from yesterday’s presentation. As seen on @hideo_kojima_EN:
“Ground Zeroes” is a prologue of “MGSV”. 9 years after that event will be “The Phantom Pain”. MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game “TPP”. The game play demo I presented today is the opening of “TPP” which is tutorial that starts from crawling.”
He also recently tweeted the following:
“The first of the hospital scene, it gives you a control tutorial in some sense as Snake gradually becoming to move his body. After the scene I demonstrated at session, he will be able to walk. I want you to experiment the process who had just woke up from coma.”
Following Hideo Kojima’s reveal at a GDC panel earlier today, Konami has released the trailer for the latest entry in the Metal Gear franchise: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“Following the success of METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS, we have extremely high expectations for METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN,” said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “We hope to expand and revolutionize the METAL GEAR SOLID franchise utilizing the FOX Engine, while providing fans the high-quality and immersive experience they have come to expect from Kojima Productions.”
Continuing the story from the PSP’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer shows the fall of Mother Base and is filled with hints tying together this game and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Kojima Production’s stellar FOX Engine is on display in this gorgeous trailer, rendering gameplay and cutscenes in remarkable detail. You can catch Snake’s old friend Kaz, or Master Miller in the trailer, as well as a man who appears to be Revolver Ocelot.
It appears that a lot of what happens in the game is either hallucinations, or perhaps Snake’s dreams while still in his extended coma. The trailer is packed with flying flaming whales eating helicopters, flaming unicorns, demonic armored soldiers, and more. At the tail end of the trailer, you can catch Snake on his bike, wearing a “Diamond Dogs” jacket and rocking a bionic arm. His new robotic arm is red, and very similar to the one donned by Gálvez in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
No release date has been given yet, but we’ll be sure to update you when we have more information. Check out the official Metal Gear Solid site for more info.
