Modern Warfare 3 Violence: Taking It Too Far

Modern Warfare 3 Violence: Taking It Too Far

Every gamer gets excited for that one game they cannot wait for. This fall, many players counted down the days until Batman: Arkham City released. Legions of fans took a sick day when Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception dropped. Personally, I can’t wait for Skyrim. One of the most highly anticipated titles of all is what many are calling the biggest game of 2011, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

But unfortunately, there always seem to be those that take things way too far. In the past day, numerous reports of crime have been reported, all having to do with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. These people were so desperate for the game that they turned to violence.

Just yesterday at around 11 PM 9News.com reported that a man threatened to blow up a Best Buy, all because they ran out of copies of Modern Warfare 3. The man, Lomorin Sar was angered at the poor customer service at the Best Buy. You can watch a video of the report below.

In another instance, an 18 year old kid held up a defenseless gamer with a loaded 40 caliber pistol for his copy of Modern Warfare 3. Funny thing is, after he stole it, he was later found at a GameStop attempting to buy another copy. Did this kid really have to mug a fellow gamer to get a few hour’s head start on Modern Warfare 3?

Finally, on November 6th in France, delivery trucks transporting Modern Warfare 3 experienced a little warfare of their own, as cars plowed into the trucks, tear gassed the drivers, and made off with 6,000 copies of Modern Warfare 3, worth about $550,000 US. These people went way too far for things that could wait (except the hijacking, which was obviously about the money). That 18 year old did not have to threaten someone’s life for something that really did not matter that much. It would not be the end of the world if they got a copy of Modern Warfare 3 a day after it released, or two days after. The “bomber” threatened the lives of numerous people over a video game. A video game.

Remember kids: games don’t matter enough to threaten other human beings with violence. If these people go to jail, good. If they complain, we’re playing the world’s smallest violin.

  1. This is absolutely ridiculous, but it always seems that these things happen near the biggest releases of media and games. I remember the rioting and someone being shot and killed over the shortage of PS3’s when that first released. There’s plenty of scumbags out there, and they’re going to be scumbags no matter the reasoning.
