Cubixx HD ReviewSeptember 22, 2011
There’s a lot of new downloadable PSN titles out there, and even more downloadable and retail games looming on the horizon. But if you enjoy a good puzzle game, Cubixx HD is a solid purchase.
Graphically and aurally, this game sets a futuristic, TRON-like tone. The visuals are simple yet satisfying, and the soundtrack contains some great techno/ electronic tracks. The graphics won’t melt your eyes out of their sockets, but the focus is on the gameplay here.
Cubixx HD’s gameplay is a bit hard to describe. Basically, you have a laser, and you need to cut away as much of all the faces of a cube as you can, without little orange boxes hitting you. It starts out very simple, but the game slowly introduces new mechanics to keep the game from getting stale. It might sound incredibly boring, but trust me, it is addictive. The game also has a thorough tutorial system to show you the ropes, which you can turn off at any time.
The game has 50 levels over 10 stages, and various modes – Time Attack, Line Attack, Score Attack, and Challenges. If you enjoy puzzle games, there’s plenty to keep you busy for a while here.
All told, Cubixx HD is a fun, addictive release that is worth checking out if you’re a die hard puzzle fan.
