Netflix Announce New Subscription Plans, Price HikeJuly 13, 2011
Netflix is very shortly going to become less of a bargain.
The company has decided to restructure its business plans, and is separating streaming and DVD rental plans, instead of using the combo plan that most people currently subscribe to. Instead of $9.99 for both DVDs and streaming, customers will have to pay $7.99 for each plan.
The combo plan will still be available, but it’s hardly a bargain at $15.98, which is exactly the total of the two separate subscriptions for DVD and streaming.
The pricing changes are immediate for new subscribers; current users will need to select a new plan by September 1st.
Netflix just upped the costs of its service in November 2010.
So what do you think? Are you one of the 24 million Netflix subscribers out there? Are you sick of price hikes with no extra services? Let us know in the comments below. In my eyes, Netflix should at least update its streaming service to include much newer titles if it wants to charge a premium.
