Green Lantern- Critics’ Consensus

Green Lantern- Critics’ Consensus

Most people , especially those of us that pay attention to comic book movies, saw this coming. Green Lantern is a pretty epic fail.

IGN has given the film 2 stars out of 5, while Roger Ebert gave the film a generous 2.5 stars out of five. Most critics are citing a terrible script, with the only light from this film coming from star Ryan Reynolds (who, ironically, fans of the comic were outraged at when he was cast). One critic even went as far as to say that the movie is not just worse than  Iron Man, but not even in the same league as the critically panned Green Hornet.

Director Martin Campbell has breathed life into franchises before, being the director of both Goldeneye and Casino Royale. It seems he can’t capture the same magic here, with the script having no emotional impact or weight, relying mostly on nice-looking CGI to distract the audience.

The Ryan Reynolds-powered vehicle has an atrocious 24% review score on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of 100%. That means this movie is 76% suck. To put things in perspective, the crap-fest that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine managed to pull off a 36% aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. So this movie packs 12% more suck than Wolverine. Stay far away.

  1. dude this is actually surprising to me. I originally thought this was going to be bad when I saw the first trailer, but my buddy at work was saying that many people who were a part of test screenings said that it was pretty good. However I usually agree with IGN’s reviews, so I’m more then likely going to wait for dvd.
